Obituary of Dixie Lee Scism
Dixie Lee Scism, 88 of Melbourne, FL. passed away on August 12, 2021 at the William Childs Hospice House
in Palm Bay, Florida.
Dixie Lee was born on July 29, 1933 in Chester, PA to Fred and Mary Rockey. She married her high school sweetheart, Charles R. Scism, on April 26, 1952 in Chappaqua, New York. Dixie lived in Port Chester, New York for 51 years, Harwich, Massachusetts for 9 years before becoming winter residents of Florida in 1996, and permanent residents in 2015. Dixie graduated from Port Chester High School, was a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked as a medical transcriptionist and secretary. She was a Girl Scout Leader in Port Chester, and involved in the Harwich Congregational Church Women’s Association, Choir, Handbell Choir and Thrift Shop Captain. At the Brewster Baptist Church she was a vacation bible school helper, and a member of the Women’s Association Heart to Heart program. Dixie also was a hospice volunteer at Hospice & Palliative Care on Cape Cod for five years.
Dixie was predeceased her spouse, Charles Scism (2017), and son, Steven Scism (1979). She is survived by her eldest son, Kenneth Scism, and wife, Grace Scism, of Ontario, NY; her daughter, Anne Kampes, and husband, Jason Kampes, of Parkton, MD. She leaves four grandchildren, Jennifer Scism Dengler, married to Mike Dengler, of Niskayuna, NY, Kyle Scism of Webster, NY, and Logan & Brianna Kampes of Parkton, MD. She also leaves two great grandchildren, Nicholas and Charles Dengler of Niskayuna, NY.
There will be a private funeral service on Cape Cod in September.
