A tribute message from Mark Tully Massagli:
The last time I saw George (we called him Juney) was in North Hollywood, California when he, Donald and I walked to the bowling alley to bowl. I was twelve. We had a great time even though none of us knew how to keep score. Through Philip and Donald, we have kept up on his astounding career, service to our country and a loving family man. He also served as an Assistant Coach on the Optomist Junior Baseball Team that Donald and I played on in California. I am proud to be related to my cousin, George Zimbardo.

George was more than just a friend, he was like a brother. I worked side by side with Zimbo for over 32 years. Such a great man. Zimbo was well respected by not only his peers, but by engineers and management as well. George loved his family so much. He often spoke so proudly of them. His grandson Vincent was his pride and joy. His brother Phillip was his idol. Was so proud of all the accomplishments his brother made. George was a great man and will surely be missed. R.I.P my brother. Love you. Chico
I pray that Jesus takes George by the hand and guides him through the valley of death and darkness and into the light of his Father's kingdom. Amen

I was one lucky kid to have you as my PePa ... I may not have been a blood grandchild but you always made me feel like I was. I cherish having the memories I have with you and feel special that you have been an important part of my life. I love you and miss you and you will always be a part of who I am.

My younger brothers, George and Donald and I were all close in age, only 18 months apart.
So, we were also close buddies playing together at home and in the streets. Don was the musical kid, George was the fixer-upper, tech guy (like our dad, George, Sr.) and I was the book worm. But none of the bad kids on the block ever messed with any of us knowing that they would have to take on the “ZimboTrio”.
George was always the most friendly and gentle of us, and thus most well-liked by everyone.
He became the protector of our little sister Vera, helping her to cope with life on our bad Bronx streets. George also became momma Margaret’s little helper, always ready to lend a hand in need—the need being often.
I recall now he was called, ‘Juney’, for George, Jr., with Donald becoming ‘Donny’, I was early in life, ‘Philzee’.
We were blessed by having our bachelor Uncle George (popular name in our extended family)
who treated us kids as if he was our secondary dad. He did so by taking us to the movies on Saturday matinees, to the beach in the summer, giving us each an allowance, we saved up to buy war bonds—that cost $18.75, but paid back $25 over time.
Uncle George also set up a line of credit at the local Charlie’s Candy store for each of us, maybe 50 cents each a week. So, we felt entitled, despite being on ‘Home Relief” and eating by virtue of government food stamps.
Again, Uncle George and brother George were best pals, confiding in each other and planning outings for our brother team. I think it was because George was the most sedentary of us, Don was always rambunctious, and I always wanted to play sports with the older guys.
Over the past several years, I always called both of my kid brothers every weekend just to stay in touch and to remember birthdays and anniversaries, while George and I would also share our pride in the San Francisco 49er football team.
I’d like to imagine that Juney is only a phone call away in Heaven, where I will join him someday.

To my Uncle George,
It was truly a joy and a blessing to be with you.
I will always cherish that time we spent together…and for you and my husband Naguib to get to know each other…
it was a love fest for us all.
You had the sweetest smile and the most gentle soul.
With much pride I speak of your many years of work and service at NASA…what an inspiration and a Service to our Country.
You were also such a vivid reminder of Nani Marge & Popi George in your many features, your expressions, your laugh and your smile…
Send them both and Aunt Vera my love.
May God Rest your Soul in Eternal Peace…
With all my love,
Your niece Donna ❤️
