Obituary of Albert William Koether
Albert William Koether was born on September 6, 1933 in Torrington, Connecticut to Wilhelm and Minna Koether. He passed on March 13, 2020.
In 1950, he met the love of his life, Cecelia Marie Hawley they married in 1954. They had six children and were married 45 years until her passing.
Al served 22 years in the US Air Force. He was part of the military police. During his service, he went on several tours including the Korean and Vietnam Wars and two tours in Germany. In his last year of active duty, he was in North Dakota and while there, he decided to ditch the snow for the Florida sunshine where he retired.
Al worked several jobs through the years and became the operator of Spessard Holland Golf Course Lounge along with Cecelia. His golf tournaments were really something to be a part of and many laughs were had especially with his skits he and his friends performed! After a successful 20 years, it was time to retire again. He was home one week and decided that wasn’t for him. For the next 17 years, he worked at M&B Seafood.
Al was a very respected man of the community making many friends along the way. He was a life member of VFW Post 4206. He had a great sense of humor and you could always count on him to tell a joke. He had many hobbies including golf, bowling (he had two 300 games) and he loved his poker.
“Big Al” will be greatly missed by his family and all of the great friends and people he has touched in his many years in the community.
He was preceded in death by wife, Cecelia and son Michael.
He is survived by his children Steve (Stephanie), Allan, Tom, Cecelia/Missy (Bob), and Frank. Several grandchildren, including Justin and Jenna whom were very involved in his life. His longtime companion, Peggy and great grandchildren.
