Obituary of Michael Prater
Michael “Mickey” Prater, 68, died peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Friday, March 12, 2021. He spent his career in the printing business, including previously at the Greenwich Advocate and Bridgeport Post (Connecticut Post). He completed his life journey to reunite with his soul mate, his wife, Sissy Prater, whom he lost 18 months ago. He is survived by his devoted daughter and son in law, Melody and Carlos Velazquez Sr., their five children and two grandchildren. Hayley Velazquez-Devault, her husband Brian Devault and their daughter, Layla Velazquez-Devault, who was the light of his life and his littlest best friend; Javanna Van Arsdale, her husband Logan Van Arsdale; Joseph Velazquez; USMC Corporal Carlos Velazquez Jr., his wife Sylvia “Tina” Velazquez; and USMC Corporal Noah Velazquez, his wife USMC Lance Corporal Samantha Velazquez and their son, Noah “NJ” Velazquez Jr., whom he was just in awe of. He loved how his family just kept growing.
Mickey is also survived by several sisters in Colorado and a sister in Florida that have been a great support to his immediate family.
Mickey was a proud man, a family man, with a sarcastic sense of humor and dry wit. He was stubborn and independent, yet kind and generous. His family wants everyone to know the world was a better place with him in it, but he was meant to be with his beloved wife and soul mate. We will miss him greatly, but will speak of the two of them often, with good memories and lots of laughter. Oh, and one more thing-this is for you Papa, Fuck Cancer.
