A Tribute to Joe: My Memories
Joe was always a kind and loving man who placed family above all else. My memories of him are filled with visions of him caring for his daughter Kerry, his patience and love evident in performing necessary tasks to make her comfortable. Joe and Carolyn chose the difficult choice of keeping her at home despite her disabilities and weree xamples of undying love.
Other memories stem from the times Joe and Carolyn joined Lou and me in our various house exchanges in Belgium, Ireland, England and France. Carolyn had the travel bug and Joe graciously went along with her knowing how much it meant to her. He didn’t necessarily want to travel but did so out of consideration and love for her. He was a homebody at heart deriving his pleasure from his family.
Joe always went along with the wishes of the others often sacrificing his comfort for them. I remember the time we met Georgia and Charlie in England and had only one car to transport the six of us. Joe always volunteered to sit in the short back luggage compartment which was very uncomfortable and cramped but he insisted. We couldn’t get him to change for more comfortable seats.
Joe readily went along with the wishes of others saying “Whatever you all want” and happy to give in. He was a gracious Southern gentleman in the true sense of the word. Lou and I and the family will sorely miss him. May he rest in peace reunited with his love, Carolyn.
Love, Nancy
