Obituary of Joyce Louise Martin
“Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” Matthew 25:23
Joyce Louise Trott Martin, a good and faithful servant, entered into her eternal rest and happiness with her Master, Lord and Savior on November 25, 2020 after a full life of 96 years. She departed peacefully at home under the watchful care of several family members.
Joyce was born February 9, 1924 in Bath Maine to Earl and Hazel Trott, the new baby sister to Phyllis and Dorothy. Her formative years were filled with school activities where she excelled in everything she put her hand to. Academics, athletics and a popular beauty in her day caught the eye of her one and only love, Robert B. Goldthwait , who for radio broadcasting reasons, later changed the family name to Martin (for obvious PR reasons J) .
The Martin love story lasted over 5 decades, blessed with eight children and countless moves from Maine to as far south as Miami, Florida. After husband Bob’s death in 1996, Joyce moved to West Melbourne, Florida and became very involved in her Arrowwood community, participating in water aerobics, card playing and many social activities, including the Red Hat Ladies Society. Joyce leaves many good neighborhood friends who took great interest in her life for the over 20 years she graced their lives.
Joyce did not like being in the spotlight; rather, her joy came from helping and supporting others. She found great satisfaction in serving as a “pink lady” for Healthfirst at Palm Bay Community Hospital for many years. Her volunteering also spilled over into her church life at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Palm Bay. She served as nursery worker, and often assisted with setup for special church events. Joyce hosted a weekly women’s Bible study in her home, and enjoyed being part of her beloved Bereavement Committee for as long as she was able. She loved being active and you rarely caught her sitting down on the job.
Joyce’s gentle and quiet spirit was the hallmark of her life. Her trademark warm and gracious smile, and her joyful attitude in all seasons, welcomed everyone she came in contact with.
Joyce is survived by 5 of her 6 sons, Bob Jr. (Robbie), Gary, Stanley, Dennis (Leigh Ann), and Don as well as both her daughters, Kathy (Ken Ingraham) and Carole Joyce. She was preceded in death by her 2nd born son, Glen Alan. Joyce leaves a legacy of love, joy and faithfulness to her 27 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren, and many more friends and relatives too numerous to count.
An in-person memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 13th at Covenant Church, 720 Emerson Drive in Palm Bay. Seating will be properly distanced and mask wearing is preferred.
A reception with light refreshments will follow in the fellowship hall of the church with outdoor seating available. (weather permitting)
