Obituary of Lois Winch

Lois (Viner) Winch died peacefully in Melbourne, Florida, on December 9, 2020. She was born in Willimantic, Connecticut to the late Wendell and Mary (Boisjoli) Viner. The family later moved to Providence, RI where she attended public school, graduating from Central High School in 1953.

Lois was a Warwick and East Greenwich, RI resident most of her life, where she lovingly raised her two sons, James III and Richard. Lois was employed as a cashier by Stop & Shop, retiring after thirty-two years of service in 1997.

She enjoyed tending to her plants and many cats, the true loves of her life (aside from her family). Lois was an avid fan of NASCAR, the Patriots, and the Red Sox.  She liked to single out Dustin Pedroia as “that cute one I really like.”  She loved dancing and was very active in roller skating until injuries unfortunately forced her to stop skating competitively in her later years.

Lois was also a dedicated member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses for over fifty years and attended several local congregations, including the most recent one in West Warwick, RI.

However, what she enjoyed the most was spending time with her family. She was constantly doting on her grandchildren Elizabeth Winch, Seth Phelabaum, Jonathan, Kellie, Ethan, and Aaron Winch, and her great-grandchildren Tyrese and Tianna Allen, Trace and Natalie Winch.

She is also survived by her sons James Winch III and his wife Rebecca of Palm Bay, FL, and Richard Winch and his wife Theo-Anne of Merrimack, NH; her brother, Donald Viner and his wife, Pat of West Greenwhich, RI; her sister, Phyllis Plouffe of North Kingston, RI; and her sisters-in-law Miyoko Winch of Valrico, FL and Judy Viner of Sebec, ME; along with several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her brother Kenneth Viner.

Lois will be missed immensely by everyone that knew her. A family memorial service is planned for this summer. The West Warwick congregation of Jehovah’s Witness’ will hold a virtual memorial service Saturday January 9, 2021 at 1pm. Anyone interested in joining this virtual service can call 401-742-8588 for more information.
