My dad learned to drive in a 1948 Austin A40 sedan. During college he worked at a gas station in Virginia, which would have been close to the Washington DC area. He was an amazing automobile mechanic - often bought cars, fixed them up and flipped them to make money. He's replaced engines in cars, at that time, using large tree limbs to hoist the engine out of the car.

Miss you, Dad. Thank you for opening up to me especially these past years. Thank you for letting me be part of your end-of-life journey. We laughed, we cried, and then you told me good-bye for the last time.
Until we meet again, be well in heaven.

Thank you for your love of Wendy Rose and your concern that she not leave our country as you and Richard were concerned for her safety and ability to return to our home with all the political difficulties with the current President.

Dad remembering camping, riding with the Baltimore Bicycle Club and the bikes we had. The September 100 mile club that I and Debbie O. did. And you always said you could go as an Outhouse for Halloween. And yes I did as young adult when my friends and group went out to party in Grand Forks ND. Outhouse with Sears catalog.

Thank you for the wonderful memories of the ocean, the Turtle park, protective ground for laying their eggs. Wendy Rose remembers getting a soft turtle animal there. Paul and I remember returning to the condo after a walk and you and Barbara asked why we did not tell them Wendy Rose could play the piano. We said we did not know. You and Barbara were so surprised how well she could play the piano. We discussed that her sisters Darlene and Julieann taught themselves how to play the piano too. Enjoying all the piano books you gave us along time ago.

Earl was so concerned about his adopted niece of color and the horrible policies toward immigrants starting in 2016. This is part of why he was elated when former Vice President Joe Biden became the 2020 President-Elect and Senator Kamala Harris became the 2020 Vice President Elect.
He had wanted Hilary Clinton to win in 2016.

Earl loved Big Band music. One of his favorite songs was “I never see Maggie Alone” - 1927
He thought the best Scrooge in any Christmas Carol movie was Alastair Sim, the 1951 “Scrooge” movie
One of his favorite movies was “Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House”, starring Cary Grant, Myrna Loy, and Melvyn Douglas (1948)

Earl Francis Gill Jr was very happy Joe Biden won the 2020 election.
Often I could test his cognitive abilities by asking who he wanted to win the 2020 election. He thought so highly of President Barrack Obama and he was looking forward to Joe.

I had the gift of spending my father’s last days with him. For almost a year, we spoke every day.
He had the courage to make his life incredible and I admired his love for Barbara, my stepmother. She had Alzheimer’s. Many spouses would run away– not my father. He looked after her until she passed. Only then, did he say to me it was his turn to go. I watched as he fell into a peaceful slumber and left this world to be with his beautiful Barbara.
Dad – I miss you, you continue to inspire me and I hope your spirit visits the plumeria garden I planted for Barbara and you.
