Obituary of Mary Clyde Stewart
Mary Clyde Stewart, age 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, 31 October 2020, at her home in Indialantic, Florida, surrounded by loving family members, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Mary was born 7 January 1943, in Sparks, Georgia to the late Mattie Pearl Holt Dixon and Homer Sylvester Dixon. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years Paul Scott (Scotty) Stewart of Belle, West Virginia. She is survived by her dear son Paul Alen Stewart (Kimberlee), Jacksonville FL and her lovely daughter Angela Marie Horn (Andy), Indialantic FL, two sisters Clara Mae Ganas (Charles), Lakeland GA, and Darlene Mikes (Jim), St. Petersburg FL, brother Bruce Dixon (Rita), Blackshear GA, and grandson Jay-Paul Alen Stewart (Tori) and great-grandson Colton Stewart, Callahan FL.
Mary spent her childhood growing up in Sparks, attending Sparks Elementary and Cook High School. She was a fun-loving person who often talked about helping her Daddy put groceries away at his store, “Dixon’s Grocery,” in Sparks. She later married Scotty Stewart, an Airman in the United States Air Force, stationed at Moody AFB, Valdosta GA. They traveled the world together, living in Spain, Germany, and numerous locations throughout the United States, while raising two children. After 25 years, Mary and Scotty settled in Palm Bay FL, where they both worked at Harris Corporation for over fifteen years, earning numerous promotions and awards during that time. In 2001 Scotty lost his fight with cancer, and Mary soon returned to Cook County, becoming the caregiver for her parents.
Mary was known as a masterful gardener, avid puzzle perfectionist, and gifted crocheter, making many blankets for family members. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings, especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and being surrounded by her family and friends.
After living in Adel for 18 years, Mary moved back to Florida in February 2020 and settled in the beachside town of Indialantic where she was happy and comfortable during her final days. She was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by many.
In keeping with her wishes, Mary was cremated. A Celebration of Life service will be held in the Sparks Baptist Church on January 8th, 2021 at 10am.
