My name is Michelle Clarke Malvo step-sister. Although I was not a blood sister, Douglas allowed me to feel like we shared the same parents. So I felt comfortable to call him my brother because he often referred to me as sis. I always loved when he called me sis. I felt like I belonged and no different from our other siblings. Douglas aka Junie was a loving and considerate man. He was understanding, caring and always place the needs of others above his own. Earlier this year the family experienced a crisis where our younger brother was hospitalized on a ventilator in New York. We all kept informed via group text. Junie would always be the first to respond and engaged about the well being of our brother. We thought we lost him but God found favor and he recovered from COVID. Junie was immensely thankful that our brother did not die. Now months later the family would now face the death of our beloved Junie. When our sister called with the news I was devastated. I began to feel guilty because I had promised Junie that I would call him more frequently. However, the challenges of work and time did not prevail, I would procrastinate. Nevertheless, I remember the last time we spoke I told him I loved him and he reciprocated. I am so grateful for that last phone call and the amazing conversation. We talked for approximately 2 hours and I will never forget his forgiving tone and gentle loving voice. I am grateful we had one last conversation together. I will miss you my brother Douglas aka Junie, RIP.

Brother...where do I start?
I’m still in shock wondering if I’m going to wake up from a dream and find you here. Life will never be the same with you not being here among us. Oh I’m going to miss those long conversations...time spent together as a family.
When I made that huge decision to move to the USA in the 80’s you opened your doors to me. You were always there for me and Cory. I don’t know if I ever thanked you enough but I am sure you knew that I am forever grateful to you. Your love, your compassion, your tough love, your huge heart helped mold me into who I am today. You’ve always been that voice of reason when I had doubts and questions. I so hated when Dad passed in 85, before he had a chance to come out to Washington to see you. His last words to me was...”Tell Dougie I will come see him this coming summer”. That summer never happened cause he was killed 4 days after he told me that. Well now you will meet up in the deep beyond...you will connect again with your mom, Miss Rita, your son Daniel and most of all your beloved Grace.
I still look at that unfinished text we had going on the night before you passed. I was waiting on an answer to my question...if you saw the doctor? I fell asleep but kept waking up to see if you responded. If I knew that was our last message/contact I would have closed with my usual “I love you”!! If I’d known that next day, Monday, Oct 26 would be your last day on earth I would have made it from Georgia to Palm Bay to see you, to hug you, to never let you go. I would have dropped everything to be there. You may have thought I was too busy to come...but I would have been there!!
The last couple of weeks have been tough beyond measure...but I know you will be with Grace again. Sleep on my dearly beloved brother...until we meet again...”On that beautiful shore...in the sweet by and by”
I have so much more to say...but for now I’ll close with...
I will forever love and miss you...
