Obituary of Duane Arnold Smith, Jr.
Duane Arnold Smith Jr. “Smitty” husband to Diane Marie Smith died in Titusville, Fl at Parrish Medical Center on October 08, 2020.
He is survived by his wife Diane Marie Smith, son Duane Arnold Smith III, sisters, Judy Ludington and Kathy Santore both currently residing in the state of Colorado, and mother-in-law Betty Lou McGillivray.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Dorothy Smith and Duane Smith, Sr.
Duane was born on October 15, 1951 in Minnesota. He was raised and remained in the St. Paul area until the mid-1970’s. “Smitty” and Diane moved to Titusville, FL where he worked for his father building screened in porches. In 1977, he began his career as a Correctional Officer with the Florida Department of Corrections at Brevard Correctional Institution (BCI) where he enjoyed a 30-year rewarding career. Shortly after beginning his career, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant. While at the rank of sergeant, he was assigned to the Work Camp where he was responsible for all outside inmate work squads, including Department of Transportation work squads. “Smitty” and his family were always an integral part of the BCI employee’s club social events.
Throughout his life, Duane enjoyed ice skating, hockey, drag racing, fishing, shrimping, camping, and hiking.
A Celebration of Life is currently being planned for a future date.
