RJ Foy was so much more than a very dear friend and family member, he was my brother from another mother. He was also a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, teammate, and captain.
I met RJ in Florida in 1985 and we bonded immediately. He was just starting a family at the time and building his first home. He had two boys, Andrew and Phil, my nephews. I had the pleasure of knowing his whole family, his wife Carrie, his first wife Patty, his mother and father Thea and Bob, his brother Jim and Jim's twin sister Julie and RJ's other sister Ellen.
RJ and I shared many life experiences together and many good times and many many of those involve the game of golf. We played a lot of rounds together over the years. In 1997 we, along with some other good friends, established a golf tournament called The Martini Cup. RJ was the captain of Team Beefeater from its inception; he will always be the captain of Team Beefeater.
There are so many memories I will have and enjoy for the rest of my days. I will miss him terribly. Rest in peace RJ.
Your brother always

The first time I met with RJ was 16 year ago when he visited China for the design liaison meeting. My first impression was the same as of today. He was a decent man and so different than the people you usually know in a huge Corp. He was real. RJ, it has been my pleasure to know you. Michael

To all of RJ's family, I would like to offer my sincerest condolences on his passing - he was taken way too early. I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know RJ when I lived and worked in Melbourne from 2000 - 2005. Initially we were golfing buddies but then later became colleagues at GE. RJ was an incredible character and I always enjoyed his company.
RJ, rest in peace.
Deepest sympathies,
Margaret Holland, Dublin, Ireland.

To all of RJ's family and friends my deepest condolences. We lost a great man and way too soon. RJ was the best boss I have ever had. He always had a way of making me feel like such an important part of the team. I could go to him for advice on anything, business or personal, and always get his true opinion. He will be greatly missed!

We are all very saddened by the loss of our dear friend and engineering guru. We will always remember him for his knowledge, friendship, professionalism and for “always hunting for good ideas.”
Many industries will feel this loss, and this void will be a challenge to replace .
Being that today is All Souls Day, we commend his soul to our Father in Heaven. Rest in Peace, Sir RJ. Cheers to the Crown!

My dearest Carrie and family,
We were very touched to learn of the sudden disappearance of our very dear RJ. We have no word for you to bear witness to our deep sorrow.
From our first meeting, we realized that RJ was a discreet, cordial, gentleman, generous, loving person for his family and friends.
We saw how much he loved Carrie and did everything to make her happy.
We will also remember that RJ was an epicurean, that he loved the Niçoise cuisine and in particular the stuffings vegetables that my mom had made him. He did not say no , neither to our famous sandwiches "pan bagnats" which accompanied your departures. It was a little bit of us leaving with you ...
We offer our deepest condolences.
RJ will remain forever in our hearts.
With all our love.
Your French family thinking about you.

RJ was only eight when I left home. My memories of him are of me and Jim teasing him. RJ would of course get mad and punch us. His hight at the time was such that his punches landed in a very strategic and painful location. May our lord accept RJ into his home and comfort his family until their reunion in heaven.

To all of RJ's loved ones,
I want you to know that he left a lasting impression on our industry and me and my family personally. If the measure of a man is the impact he has on other’s life, then he was beyond measure. I appreciated everything he did for me and will always cherish that. Our prayers are for those left behind that you keep your faith, the Holy Spirit is with you and may God hold you in his hands. Good luck to St Peter on all the Par 3s in Heaven!
With love and respect,

To RJ's family and close friends, my deepest condolences. I hope that knowing that your grief is shared by many of his colleagues and acquaintances around the world helps make it a bit more bearable. Even some who never met him feel the loss, like my wife who knew RJ thru me as the leader I frequently talked about and most enjoyed working with.
When I moved to Melbourne in 2004 I didn’t know RJ well, but upon learning I that I had moved there from Erie he immediately invited me to meet at Charlie and Jake’s. He showed me his mug on the wall, and we sat for a few hours enjoying our drinks and talking about the railroad industry – the first of many such conversations that I cherish.
RJ, I hope that fine Scotsman who also completed his journey today finds you for a good chat about trains over a whiskey.

To our dearest Uncle RJ,
Thank you for using your time here on Earth to better the lives of all who knew you.
You were generous to a fault with your time, your home and your resources. For that, we thank you for the memories, laughs and photographs we shared with you.
You shared with us so many of your relatives and met ours with open arms. For that, we thank you for reminding us that family goes well beyond a simple strand of DNA.
And most importantly...
You dedicated the last 14 years of your amazing life making sure that our Aunt Carrie began and ended each day with a smile on her face. And for that, Uncle RJ, we thank you for giving life to words like Devotion. True love. Eternity.
We love you.

RJ, You are gone too soon. You were a mentor to me and I will never forget you. I have so many stories to tell... I know you are in heaven looking down at the community that you created that demands excellence in everything that we do. You make us all a better person than we can imagine we can be. You are one of a kind and I will never forget you. Thank you for everything that you did for me personally. Prayers to your family that I know you loved. I pray that they know that the time you spent at work, away from them, was time that was so valuable to those that worked with you. You changed me and I can never repay that. Notch8!

My deepest sympathies to the Foy family. I never had the chance to meet you in person, but I wanted to share a story that hopefully will help you understand how much RJ meant to me personally - and how much I will miss him.
I joined GE in March 2014 – my 2nd week on the job I attended the annual Trip Optimizer / Locotrol User Conference in Melbourne, FL. My first day in Melbourne was the day before the Conference began and there was an internal prep meeting led by “Mr. Foy” – I quickly learned that there was no “Mr. Foy” – only “RJ”. I also learned that the team RJ led didn’t appear to be typical GE-ers, at least on the surface. It seemed like a bunch of like-minded, engineering-types, who basically seemed to have a pretty good lifestyle creating some interesting software-based technologies down in Florida, but didn’t appear to have the same drive, urgency, nor buttoned-up approach to things that I ascribed to the GE culture. Of course, I had only been on the job for a week prior to making these observations, in addition to a fairly intense round of interviews – but clearly these guys were different. What I came to learn eventually through hours and weeks and months and years of close interaction with the “Melbourne Mafia” was that RJ was the “Don” of this family, and there was no other group within GE that was more professional, more passionate about doing great things with technology, more committed to transforming their industry, and none more committed to excellence that this group in Melbourne. Every one of them would rather run in front of a train than to let RJ down – every one of them would have moved heaven and Earth to deliver anything RJ might have “suggested”. RJ never yelled, he never dictated, and he never was dictatorial – but in the pantheon of great leaders of high performance teams, there are none greater than “Mr. Foy.” It was a great honor and privilege to have worked with him, and to have learned from him. That 2nd week at GE I also learned about the “Statue Garden” – to earn RJ’s and his team’s respect and to be awarded with a “statue” as a symbol of some achievement or award of a contract that his team felt was important to the business – well, there just weren’t many honors inside GE that were more meaningful to me or most all of the sales team at GE Transportation. I was lucky enough to win one or two of these statues – but to have earned the respect of “Mr. Foy” was all that mattered.

Dearest RJ, we will forever remember the good times we shared with you, especially the Foy/Powell Thanksgiving weekends that you and Carrie delivered with so much love and joy! Your hospitality and generosity will never be forgotten. We prayed so hard for you to stay here a little longer but God had other plans. Carrie courageously carried you across the finish line of this life and we will smile as we think of you in the next. So, no goodbyes, just "see you later". Dearest brother-in-law, you ran a great race!
