Obituary of Paula Lynch Arnold

Paula Lynch Arnold, age 84, passed away October 18, 2020 after a long illness. Born August 9, 1936 at Pickwick Dam, TN.

 

Preceded in death by her parents, Carlos L. Lynch and Ruby Franks Lynch.  Surviving are her husband, LTC (RET) Lipsy R. Arnold; daughter, Renee Arnold, Melbourne, FL; sons in Franklin, TN: Paul (Kerry) Arnold and Ray (Lillian) Arnold; grandchildren Simone Fox, Melbourne, FL; Megan Arnold Alsup (Caleb) and Dillon Arnold of Franklin, TN; her sister, Carole (Bob) Owen, Brentwood, TN, nephew, Lynch (Darla) Owen, Hermitage, TN and niece, Ruth Owen, Brentwood, TN.  Her best friend since graduate school, Joyce Gladstone, Kings Mountain, NC, also survives. Other survivors are her aunt Dymple Franks, Franklin, TN and many cousins.  She leaves many special friends, among them, Christie Cross, Franklin, and a multitude of friends in the Fort Rucker, AL, area, including, Marilyn Rarick, Ken Marchman, Betty and Will Wittekind, Chuck and Valera Thomley.

 

Paula graduated from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University and from the Army Management Staff College at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.  She also held a Masters Degree from Boston University, and had done additional advanced graduate work at Virginia Polytechnic Institute. 

 

She served in Germany, Italy and the United States in a civilian capacity as a Counselor, as an Education Specialist, and as an Army Training Specialist with the U.S. Army, from which she retired.  Paula also served as an educator with the Job Corps for three years. She was a realtor after retiring from Federal Civil Service.  For several years, she also worked as a volunteer Equal Employment Opportunity Counselor and volunteered at Graceworks Ministries, Franklin, TN.

 

Paula was a member of St. Phillips Catholic Church, Franklin, TN.  She was a former member of Phi Beta Kappa, University Women, the American Association of Counselors, National Board of Counselors, Officers Wives Club, Greater Nashville Association of Realtors, Tennessee Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors.

 

Travel was her passion; she traveled to scores of countries on every continent, except the Antarctic.  She lived for extended periods in Germany and in Italy.  She studied the language, history, culture, architecture, and politics of every country she lived in or visited.

 

Her grandchildren called her Oma and she adored each of them.  She shared with them her myriad of interests, her love of learning; of reading, music, fine art, sea life, pets, world cultures and world travel.  She was a life-long learner.

 

Paula’s final wishes were that there be no funeral or memorial service.  She will be cremated.
