Obituary of Edward Matheson Kydd
EDWARD MATHESON KYDD
July 1916 – April 2019
Ed passed away peacefully after a long and vigorous life. He was born in Grand Mere, Quebec and grew up enjoying nature and learning survival skills from his father. He married Helen Gilman in 1943 and together they raised four children, enjoying the outdoors while camping and sailing in Canada and the U.S.
Ed was a pioneer of technology. He led a team at The Marconi Company developing quartz frequency crystals vital to communications equipment during WWII and was a member of the Canadian Signal Corps. Years later, he led other teams developing and installing computer systems for the New York Stock Exchange and several major airlines operating at Denver International Airport.
Ed was also a great handyman. He refurbished boats and built an entire second floor onto his family home in Darien, CT. He taught himself to play the organ and enjoyed music, but his passion was sailing. He explored the eastern coastal inlets and even sailed to the Bahamas with Helen. Demonstrating his competitive side, Ed entered and won several sailing race events. He was a strong believer in volunteer service and was active in; Scouting, Red Cross blood drives, Education, Local government, Author’s Guild, the U.S. Power and Sail Squadron, Meals On Wheels and numerous Presbyterian Churches.
Ed is survived by his four children: Janet, Carol Ann, Edward Jr., and Margaret: two grandchildren, Jessica and Brandon and three great-grandchildren, Ian, Amelia, and Cade.
His Memorial Service is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at Rockledge Presbyterian Church, located at 921 Rockledge Drive, Rockledge. A small reception will be held in Calvin Hall following the service.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, you instead make a donation to Aging Matters Meals on Wheels, 3600 W. King Street, Cocoa, 32926, 321-806-3704, if you feel so inspired by Ed and his life.
