Obituary of Gwendlyn Sue Strayer

March 29, 1946 – August 9, 2018 Gwendlyn Sue Strayer, 72, Palm Bay, Florida, passed away Thursday evening August 9, 2018 at the Kindred Hospital in Melbourne, FL. She was born in Hollidaysburg, PA, the youngest of five daughters of the late Jesse Strayer Jr and Violet I. (Mentzer) Strayer. Gwen finished her 6th year at Gaysport Elementary School and went with her parents as they ventured to Florida for Jesse to work at Cape Canaveral on the space program. Gwen graduated from Eau Gallie High School and retired in 2012 as Executive Assistant at Authentec Corp. in Melbourne, by being bought out by Apple, Inc. Gwen was preceded in death by two sisters, Patsy Strayer McNelis and Gloria Strayer Halbritter, all three within 13 months. Surviving are two sisters, Linda Strayer Naff and husband, James, of Rockledge, FL, and Sherry Strayer Gregg and husband, Howard, of State College, PA, and many nieces and nephews. Gwen was a gifted artist and crafter whose work was enjoyed by many people, especially those who were lucky enough to have received one of her lovely shadow boxes full of items relating to their personal history and stories. No local services are planned. Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Alto-Reste Chapel, 109 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona, PA 16601 where a memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
