I’m so sorry to hear of Bette’s passing. She was like family to me for most of my early life. Back when I was in high school, she and I worked together at my family’s bookstore, and I just loved working with her — and trading little notes when we worked different shifts, to let each other know the amusing things customers had said or asked for while we were working. I was a teenager, and she was such a calming and loving influence on me. So much so that I used to go visit her whenever I made it back to Florida after I had moved away to Texas. She was a sweet, sweet lady with a great sense of humor and a warm smile, and I am sorry I won’t get to see her again. My deepest sympathies to all of you.
