Janie Day, born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1929, passed away February 14, 2019.
She obtained an AA from Villa Julie College (now Stevenson University), her BA from Loyola University in Towson, Maryland, her first Masters degree in English also from Loyola and her second Masters degree in Education with an emphasis on the Gifted Child from Johns Hopkins University.
She taught in the Baltimore County School System for more than twenty years, retiring as a member of the Gifted and Talented team for the county. She then taught part time at Goucher College and substituted at Sebastian Elementary School in Florida.
She served as President of the Maryland Hospital Auxiliary Association and on the regional board for the ELCA. She was an avid gardener and reader. She had a great love of animals particularly her dog Daisy; the ocean; and, most importantly, her family and friends. She was an active member of her church, a wise counselor, irreverent, and “second-mom” to many. She faced life with profound faith, strength, determination, and a deep commitment to her friends and community.
She is survived by her daughter Hollis Day and her son-in-law Asher Tulsky. She will be deeply missed.
Memorial services will be on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 5pm at Joy Lutheran Church.
