Obituary of Louise Rhoads Loy

It is with great sadness that the family of Louise Rhoads Loy, formally of Frederick Maryland, announces her passing on July 20, 2018. Born March 24, 1923, Louise was the daughter of the late Paul B. Rhoads, Sr. and Louise Schley Rhoads, of Frederick, MD. Louise will be lovingly remembered by her children Philip R. Loy (Rita) of Atlanta, GA, Nora Sanchez of Rockledge, FL, Gale Morgan (George) of Viera, FL and Ann Metcalf of Hampton, VA. She will also be remembered by her 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Louise was predeceased by her husband, James Stewart Loy; and her son Stephen P. Loy and son-in-law Carlos Sanchez. She was also predeceased by her brothers Paul B. Rhoads, Jr. and Charles G. Rhoads both of the Frederick, MD area. Louise attended the University of Maryland. Louise and her husband moved to the Space Coast in the early 1950’s, coming with the start of NASA from Redstone Arsenal in Alabama. In an effort to get to know her community Louise worked as a “Welcome Lady” in the area. Louise loved playing bridge and grew the most beautiful orchids. Louise was also a master quilter and traveled extensively to learn and perfect her craft. She was a hospice volunteer in the early days of hospice. Louise also spent countless hours working with Project Response and Ascension Social Concerns and various organization giving back to her community. She taught all of her children the importance of giving back and volunteering. Louise was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church from the very beginning of the parish. Even in times of great sorrow and grief she remained steadfast in her faith. A Mass will be held to celebrate her long life on July 31, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s in Viera. The family would like to thank all of the caretakers at Victoria Landing and from Vitas Health Care for their love and comfort during this time. Interment will be at a later date at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick Maryland. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to either Project Response or The Salvation Army.
