Obituary of William “Jimmy” Alonzo Rogers
William “Jimmy” Alonzo Rogers returned to his heavenly home on October 21, 2018. He was born in Blairsville, Georgia, on September 10, 1937. He attended Young High School in Knoxville, Tennessee. Will married his high school sweetheart, Margie Roberts, on May 23, 1958. In May of 2018, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Will served honorably in the Tennessee National Guard. He worked as a draftsman/designer for Union Carbide in Oakridge, Tennessee and for Chrysler Corporation, ATI Wah Chang Corporation, and Brown Engineering in Huntsville, Alabama. In 1966, he moved with his wife and children to Merritt Island, Florida, to work as a mechanical engineer at Cape Canaveral/Kennedy Space Center. During his aerospace engineering career, he was employed by IBM and Harris Corporation. He retired from Harris Corporation in 1992.
Will is survived by his wife, Margie Rogers, and 3 children, Marisa Hirsche, Scott Rogers (Holly), and Tina Gantz (Chuck). Will and Margie have 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Jennings Lee Rogers and Lottie Veral Dillard.
Will was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and truly enjoyed teaching Sunday School and serving his fellow men.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 1801 South Fiske Blvd., in Rockledge, Florida, 32955.
