Obituary of Helene E Makowski
Helene Elizabeth Makowski, 86, passed away unexpectedly on January 15, 2015. She was born on April 27, 1928, in Riverhead, Long Island, New York, to Stephanie and Benjamin Grodski, who immigrated to the United States from Poland at the turn of the twentieth century. She had six brothers and five sisters. She made her home in Wading River, Long Island, New York, and Pittstown, New Jersey, before moving to West Melbourne, Florida, in 1993.
She was a devoted wife, mother, “Bopchie” and homemaker, known for her delightful wit. She was also an excellent artist, gardener, craftsperson, and “master” cook. She enjoyed the challenge of crossword puzzles, the music of Frank Sinatra, swimming in the Long Island Sound and “her” New York Mets.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Walter Makowski, whom she met at Riverhead Lanes; two daughters, Dianne and Adrienne (Jeffrey Wiggin); two grandsons, Michael (Catalina) and David Kowal; one great-granddaughter Camila Josephine; two sisters, Florence Jackson and Dorothy Sousa; and one brother William Grodski.
Helene will be sorely missed by those whose lives she touched.
A memorial service will be on Friday, January 23, 2015 at 11am at Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care, 1001 Hickory Street, Melbourne.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Helene’s memory to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org)
