Obituary of Frederick Gerwig Marshall
Melbourne, Florida– Fred Marshall, 59, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Holmes Regional Hospital surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Oneida, NY, he spent his early years in Sherrill, NY and Mexico City, Mexico. He moved to Satellite Beach in his early teens. Fred graduated from Satellite High School in 1976 and went on to earn a degree from Lake City Community College in Golf Course Operations and Landscaping Technology in 1982.
Fred held various positions at Suntree Country Club over several years including Assistant Pro, Grounds Superintendent and Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. While at Suntree he met and married his wife, Anne. He then became the Golf Course Superintendent of the Melbourne City Golf Courses. Next he went into golf course maintenance supply sales and worked for Southern States and ConAgra before starting his own business, Space Coast Turf Supply, Inc.
Fred was a member of the Central Florida Golf Course Superintendents’ Association and an avid fan of the Florida State Seminoles. He loved all things golf – playing, watching and mowing fairways. His quick wit made him easy to talk to and fun to be around.
A loving and devoted father, his family includes his daughter Carlie Marshall and his wife, Anne; sister Kathy Moss and her husband Bill, brother Charlie and his wife Conni; sister-in-law Carol Marshall; nieces Erin (Rich) Davis, Lynn Schutte (Sean) , Loren Rowland (Matt); nephews, Tim and Kyle. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Doris, as well as his brothers, Frank and Rob.
A celebration of his life is scheduled for Saturday, January 13, 2018 for 2:00 at Advent Lutheran Church, 7550 N. Wickham Rd., Melbourne.
