Obituary of Marvin “Gene” Canada
Marvin “Gene” Canada Jr., 60, passed away peacefully at his home on Merritt Island on Thursday, September 24, 2015 following a long battle with brain cancer. He was born on October 10, 1954 in Cedartown, GA to Marvin and Ruth Canada. Gene graduated from the University of Georgia in 1976 with his accounting degree. He later received his Masters of Taxation from the University of Central Florida. Upon graduating from UGA, he moved to Merritt Island, FL and went to work as an accountant with his brother-in-law Janson Davis. For the last 40 years, they worked together and successfully built their firm, Brevard Accounting Group, CPA’s, PA.
Gene is survived by his loving wife Tracey; sons Trey and Kelby; sisters Becky (Janson) Davis, Dottie (Butch) Benefield, and Gloria Astin; nieces and nephews Christopher and Debbie Davis and their son Kyle, Melissa Cole and her daughter McKenna, Lacey Benefield, and Canada Astin and her daughter Hannah.
Gene was a true Southern Gentleman who loved his family, friends and cheering on his Georgia Bulldogs. He enjoyed fishing and was a long time member of the Florida Fly Rod Club. Throughout his long illness, Gene maintained his humor and his gracious attitude. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Glory, glory to ole’ Georgia.Services will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 4:00 pm. A reception at the family’s home will immediately follow the service.In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 4 Church Street, Cocoa, FL 32922 or Georgianna United Methodist Church, 3925 S. Tropical Trail, Merritt Island, FL 32952; both of which have provided immense support over the past seven years.
