I knew Grandpa Rickert for many years through the Brennans – my extended family. He shared a kind word, a story and a smile with me every time I was in his presence. I will always appreciate the time we spent together. J-Bird used to love visiting Grandpa and I think the feeling was mutual. The two of them would share whistles, meals and even pistachios when the nuts were available. Heaven is a better place with Grandpa there and I am certain his family greeted him with love and rejoicing. I believe Grandpa Rickert is now dancing with the angels and will be watching over his loved ones now and forevermore. I send my love to you all, Jenny Flaherty

I have many happy memories of Vesta and Merle. They were our neighbors on Conwill in Stow and there were never any better neighbors.
When Holy Family School was in desperate need of a fifth grade teacher Vesta insisted I take it, offering to add my two youngest to her brood
so I could teach. Our kids and theirs had many good times together and we were so lucky to know them.
We were all devastated when they moved to Florida. They always called and met with us when they visited.
I am sorry to read that Mary Kay also has passed.

I write on a late Sept. afternoon. As I read the words your close family wrote of Uncle Merle. I have memories of before you were born of tennis games and wrestling & boxing matches at the Kraver homestead in Medina, many of which were documented in film, I recall seeing it live. Dad and Uncle Merle were not the most boistrus of the bunch but active participants full of laughter & kidding with all including the kids my age. There were bonfires at our home at 591 SharonCopley Road that had all the adults, and as many kids as had the nerve, leaping off & swinging out from ledges at the top of the hill on grapevines Dad & the uncles had climbed and cut free; some really hefty vines that had grown to the tops of 60 to 100 ft tall trees, and tested them with hoots and screeches of delight & daring. Dad & Merle shared many of the volunteering and helping others attributes too. They were a bit more quiet and unassuming but totally dependable to carry the load of others, as they learned to do on a farm that their father vanished from. This unexpressed grief or loss, I think, at such young ages welded them together and pointed them to helping community, as did WW2. My memories of your family growing up was of disciplined cooperation and loads of games after the work was done. Life had a rhythm based on the virtues of honesty, respect, and what used to be thought of as good American values. Uncle Merle & Aunt Vesta were my personal positive role models of solid supportive family living. I honor their memory and your loss.

A true gentleman and kind soul. It was a privilege to know him when he lived at Century Oaks. Godspeed home Merle!
