Obituary of Alma Younce Todd Hurley
Goodbye world, hello Jesus! On February 19, 2019, Alma quietly and peacefully entered into the Kingdom of God.
Born on December 10, 1929 in Cove Creek, North Carolina, Alma was declared “no bigger than a cricket” and Cricket became her family nickname for life.
She was predeceased by her husband, the love of her life, Harron Todd.
She leaves behind two daughters, Glenda Walls and Vicki (Jim) Slate. Six grandsons and nine great grandchildren also grieve her passing. She was a wonderful Granny and Great Granny to them all, and “Pretty Granny” to at least one of them! She was a kind and thoughtful stepmom to her husband’s first daughter, Sue (Jim) Holloway and their family. She is survived by her sisters Ruby (Mark) Taylor and Barbara Bartlett.
She was predeceased by her parents, Roy and Bradie Younce, brother William Younce, and sisters Dovie Combs and Juanita Harmeyer.
Alma possessed a keen wit and always looked for an opportunity to make someone laugh. She was a great cook but was most famous for two things that were only made at Christmas…her Pecan Tassies, and her Buckeyes. We waited all year for those! She was dearly loved by her many friends and family, and she loved them.
Her legacy would be her spiritual walk with the Lord. She loved Jesus and lived her life to honor Him. Before dementia took her from us years ago, she was in the Word daily and she prayed faithfully for her family and friends. Her parting wish would be that all of her family would come to know Jesus as their personal Savior and someday join her in Heaven.
A memorial to celebrate her life will be held at a future date in her beloved birthplace of North Carolina. We will also celebrate the life she shared with her husband at their joint grave site in Kentucky.
