Obituary of Michael Joseph Said
Michael Joseph Said (known to his friends as Mikey, Swamp Rat, and Little Mike), age 58, passed away April 27, 2019, due to kidney and liver failure.
Mikey was born in Poughkeepsie, New York to Marie Hunt and Joseph M. Said.
Mikey is survived by his siblings, Anna Dailey, Lisa Barret, Andre Said, Paula Cypher, Elizabeth Gullett, Dawn Brown, and Lloyd Brown, his aunt and uncle, Elizabeth and Dale Montgomery, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his family, Michael leaves behind an unusually large circle of dear friends, his Mikey-isms (“I’m not without wit”), and his incredibly beautiful handiwork in homes and businesses across the country.
Mikey loved to fish (especially for Red Fish), four-wheel his way into the Merritt Island Refuge
wilderness, and have a drink or a meal with his friends after a hard day’s work (Mikey loved barbecue more than any other food).
He brought the world a can-do, never-quit attitude and shared his tools, experience, and trade with any who asked. He loved his siblings, and especially enjoyed torturing them with his unique world-view and special brand of Politics.
Mikey had a servant’s heart hidden behind a rough exterior. He sometimes talked God with friends and sometimes visited a church, but he always tried to do the right thing, to own his choices, and to give to those in need. One thing about Mikey, he always showed-up to help elderly neighbors in-need, injured animals, and friends in a pinch.
Mikey was a tile-setter by trade, but was truly a jack-of-all-trades — he will be much-missed by his many Space Coast customers, but he will live on in our memory every time someone stops to appreciate Mikey’s work. In nearly every photo (and he has many), Mikey wears a smile and a swagger. It’s impossible to see an outback hat without thinking, “Mikey.”
Please join us celebrating his life Saturday, July 27, 2019, between Noon and 2:00 PM at William J. Manzo Memorial Park at 3335 S. Washington Ave, Titusville, FL 32780, Dolphin Pavilion. The Indian River was Mikey’s favorite place to fish, and we couldn’t think of a better place to send him off on his next adventure.
