I just left my message on Donna’s page and came back to see all the messages on Jim’s page. Although as a friend I would ask his advice, I wasn’t his patient but I remember going out to dinner several times with Donna and Jim. As we would walk into a restaurant he was always greeted by one or more of his patients. After reading all of the above comments I can see why he was so loved by all of them. I am grateful that he was so forthcoming with good advice whenever I asked. He and Donna were both so wonderful to me after the death of my husband. I will miss Jim and Donna very much.

Dr. Honig was a most amazing human being. Funny, wise, open, highly skilled….you always knew he had your best interests at heart, and would fight any obstacles encountered to give you the very best care available. You always knew you were in good hands. So enjoyed his directness and sense of humor. And you had absolutely no doubt that he was being honest with you. My thanks for many years of excellent care and caring. My condolences to his family, and to our community family for “our” loss. May he rest in peace and light up the angels with his wit and laughter

Dr. Honig was a hero to me. I had some difficulty with a doctor at Cape Canaveral hospital after I had been admitted and prepped to deliver my son in 1975. The man terrified me so I walked out and we drove from Canaveral to Wuesthoff after determining…that No, it was not a good idea to have a home birth! Dr Honig was on call that day and even though I was not his patient he saw how distraught I was and promptly admitted me. I believe my husband was the first father he ever allowed in the delivery room. Dr. Honig’s kindness will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family.

Dr. Honig was my ob/gyn in the 80s. He took excellent care of me and my daughter, Sarah, during my difficult pregnancy. I developed pre-eclampsia during my 6th month of pregnancy and he cared for me at Wuesthoff Hospital for a whole month’s stay, then had me moved to Orlando for the delivery of my 3 lb. baby girl in 1987. I enjoyed his dry sense of humor (and his office artwork, including one interesting picture that hung in the bathroom that you had no choice to look at as you sat on the toilet). I was disappointed that I had to be moved, as I would have loved for him to deliver my baby, instead of doctors I did not know in Orlando. Dr. Honig did what was best for his patients. I worked at Wuesthoff as well during that time. Dr. Honig was well respected. My condolences to his family

I was blessed to work with Dr. Honig as a L&D nurse and one of his office staff. He was absolutely the best OB/GYN I ever worked with! If we had a baby or mother that was not doing well, If Dr. Honig walked in the door- I knew no matter what, with him at the helm, we were going to get them all through it! He was one of the best surgeons and despite his sometimes gruff appearing nature (which scared the life out of me as a new nurse!), he truly and deeply cared for all his patients and the staff he worked with and went over and above to give 110% of himself. He always made me laugh and could tell the greatest true and TALL stories- which I fell for numerous times! Which made him very happy!! I feel so blessed to have worked with him. My condolences to his family and all those who loved him.

I remember the day I received the “I’m Retiring Letter” in the mail. ( I still have it.) I remember the day I picked up my very fat file. I remember the hug and the tears rolling down my cheeks. I remember your smile, your music, the posters and the advice. I will remember you always. The Universe has suffered a great loss! I don’t think they make ’em like that anymore.

I worked with Dr Honig for many years and what an experience it was. I have wonderful memories of working with him and remember some great advise he gave me.
When I left Wuesthoff, Dr Honig gave me the most phenomenal letter of recommendation anyone could ask for.
Your wit and humor will be missed. Donna and family, so sorry for your loss.

Dr. Honig was an amazing Dr. After our son was born I spiked a fever. I spoke to him on the phone. He asked “What hurts?”
Nothing. He said “Take Tylenol and call me when something does.” The next day he called in an antibiotic prescription for mastitis. He was one of a kind and I feel very fortunate to have had him as my OB.

Jim was my neighbor, he was a wonderful man. He had daily fights with the squirrels in our yards if one ended up on my side of the fence, he always came and picked it and apologized. I also worked with Jim at Wuesthoff in the OR, like others would agree he could be grouchy, though I never minded that, his competence was what mattered to me. He and Donna were wonderful
people to have close by. Rest well my friend, give em’ hell wherever you are.

I am honored to have worked at Wuesthoff in Labor and Delivery with Dr. Honig from 1986 until his retirement. He was a skilled physician and I trusted him immensely- so much that I chose him to deliver my second daughter in 1989.
I will miss his humor and watching him run across the parking lot from the the 4th floor window when we would call him for a delivery! He was the epitome of a good and decent human being.

Dr. Honig delivered our daughter, who was the first baby to be delivered in the new birthing room in 1980. As first time parents we were nervous and my husband had never met him. Dr. Honig came in, checked on me and promptly took a nap on the couch. About an hour later he woke up and said “lets have this baby” and she was born shortly after that.

When called to attend a C-Section as the pediatrician, it was always a relief to know Jim was the O.B. We knew the procedure would be controlled and competently performed and that the baby would be safe. He was one of the best.

Dr Honig , as a new L& D nurse you scared the heck out of me and my fondest dream was to fill the shoes that you left at the nurse’s station with ultrasound gel and watch your reaction as you slipped them on . As time went on I grew to love and respect you. I remember when you asked me as a new nurse to go examine your other patient while you were in a delivery, I really had no idea what I was doing so when you said “ Well Alipo ,what is she?” I replied “somewhere between 3 and 7 centimeters”. You laughed and said “well ,at least you’re honest”. You sang during deliveries, you brought in a birthday cake for me when I was going through a difficult time and you made me a competent Labor and Delivery nurse. You will be missed. My condolences to Donna and the whole family for such a loss.

I will always remember how he tested me as a new scrub partnered with a new R.N. in the OR by hiding a sponge to see if we counted correctly! He was pleasant to work with and once shared the story of how poor he was in school that he jumped off a bridge for $5!! That was worth more in the 50s but still a crazy thing to do. RIP

I worked with Dr. Honig in the Wuesthoff operating room back in the OLD O.R. and the new one. He always scared me to death as he could be very intimidating. but, I knew he was the best in the county. Nurses who work with and see the results of doctors know who the best are and go to them. As a young woman I drove out of town to see a doctor because i just couldn’t face a local doctor. After years I finally decided I’d have to go to a local doctor and even though Dr. Honig scared the crap out of me, I knew he was the best and asked him if I could start to see him. I jokingly told him he’d have to wear a blindfold as I was very modest. So, I get in his examination room, lay down on the exam table, put my feet in his golf club covered stirrups, thank you for that kind gesture, and looked at the ceiling to see a 20×30 picture of him smiling at me. when he entered the room, he had bag over his head with the eyes cut out. He took all of my nervousness away. We became, what I’d like to think, good friends. he was the best. Although I hadn’t seen him in years, his memory has and always will be with me. I remember him fondly. So sorry Donna for your loss. Please let me know when you have a service for him. RIP.

When I moved to Orlando, I drove to Rockledge to continue seeing Dr. Honig even though he didn’t take my insurance. I remember the sign he posted that read (paraphrasing) “Dr. Honig is no longer practicing obstetrics, but will continue practicing gynecology until he gets it right.” I still repeat something he told me and it always gets a big laugh and usually an Amen. He was a skilled doctor and as asset to the community.

I worked with Dr Honig at Wuesthoff from 1992 until he retired . He was funny, sometimes crabby, mostly full of fun as well as a wealth of knowledge. He even delivered 2 of my own children. He was an excellent physician and a great co-worker (sometimes). After he retired I would see him at the store on ocassion and he was always genuinely glad to see one of the old work crew. He will be missed. Thoughts and prayers to Donna and the rest of his family.

Dr. Honig was my Ob/Gyn and friend. He brought my two children, now grown adults, into the world. Dr. Honig was dedicated to his patients and their care. Though at times his bedside manor seemed a little tough; he was the best. After two babies and 3 surgeries – I can say that there was no one better than Jim Honig. I thought the world of him. He was a good man and an excellent and trusted doctor. He was one of God’s finest creations!

From being his patient in the late 70’s, delivering my son in 1984, to working L&D with him from 1994 until his retirement, Dr. Honig was truly his own person. A trip to his office was an adventure just to read his walls and ceilings!
He was caring when he needed to be, tough when he needed to be and a great story teller of his early days in Obstetrics.
His skills were remarkable. May you Rest In Peace, Dr. Honig.

Dr. Honig delivered my second baby, Kayla on 6/18/98. He was one of a kind of a special doctor. I even has a picture of him holding Kayla.
When the anesthesiologist didn’t show up on time to give my epidural, I remember him calling tardy upon his arrival. By then Kayla was born. It was quick. I remember him as a genuine, caring, and honestly direct.
May his soul Rest In Peace! He certainly touched many lives!

Dr. Honig was my GYN for many years, and I trusted him implicitly. He was straight forward and to the point, but with a sense of humor that I really liked. I can’t repeat one particular story here, but suffice it to say, when I have repeated it to friends over the years, it has always brought a good laugh. Above all, he was concerned for his patients well being. May he Rest In Peace.

My condolences to the Honig family. Dr. Honig gave a very warm eulogy
of my dad at his service..
I was certainly one whom found his Harvard degree enormously prestigious…
but I know also did my dad. My dad’s reading selections were heavily
influenced by his admiration of Jim, or so I was convinced:
‘Bellow, Vidal, Roth, Updike, Malamud…..’
In fact I believe my dad’s adult personality was much conformed by his
association with Jim.
We were such a parochial burg in the ’60’s; “A Harvard degree!”
The Drs. spent a day apiece in each other’s company as an interview.
I remember their heads down and together, discussing great thoughts.
One of a few times I met your mother. Remember her as sophisticated
and stylish beyond provincial Cocoa in the ’60’s.
Actually I wouldn’t have thought to comment, were it not for the reference
to memorial donations to “JudicialWatch”. I’m gobsmacked.
DID NOT see that coming
