Obituary of Eugenia Mayakis Murphy

Eugenia Mayakis Murphy, 89, of Melbourne, Florida, passed away on Friday, July 6, 2018, at the Atlantic Shores Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Melbourne from a re-occurrence of the Ovarian Cancer she battled and survived in 2014. Eugenia was born on December 10, 1928 in Johnstown, New York and was the daughter of Nickolas and Anastasia Mayakis. She was a 1946 graduate of Johnstown High School and upon graduation worked for the former Albany Savings Bank. Eugenia was a homemaker and a caregiver for most of her life. She had a passion for travel and enjoyed the opportunity to live in numerous countries and states during the winter with her husband in their retirement over the past thirty years. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Eugenia was predeceased by her late husband Willard (Buddy) Murphy; son Morgan Murphy; sister Esther Taylor; brother Alexander Mayakis. Eugenia is survived by her son Nicholas (Margaret) Murphy of Albany, NY/San Diego, CA; daughter Melissa (Kevin) Colglazier, Woodside, CA; grandchildren, Jennifer (Andrew) Joyce, Nicholas (Lindsey) Murphy, Megan (Donald) White, and William Colglazier, as well as four wonderful great-grandchildren. The family is having a private celebration of life at a later date.
