Obituary of Susan “Sue” Ellen Shortz Holder
Susan Ellen Holder, age 63 of Merritt Island, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2017. She was born to the late Francas “Frank” Norman Shortz and the late Florence Ruth Utess Shortz.
Susan attended Bowie High School then graduated from Wor-Wic Community College with a degree in Hospitality Management. She worked at the Frontier Town and then Phillips Hotel and Restaurant as the Hotel Manager.
Born in Washington D.C. on December 23, 1953, Susan grew up in Bowie, Maryland. Her love for the ocean brought her to Florida. Her final home was in Merritt Island. She enjoyed her cats, cooking, watching old westerns, and playing games on her laptop. She was beloved by many and missed every moment by her husband, Gene Holder, who says she brightened his life.
She is survived by her husband, Gene Holder; brother Scott Edward Shortz; daughter Sheila Francais Littleton, and her family; Sarah Renee Fortner, and Noah Scott Duprey; in-laws James and Sylvia DeWilde; close family friend, Denise Troll; cousins, Chris, Bryan, and Kevin Shortz, Pam Marshall, Richard, Henry, Lorraine, and Becky; stepdaughters Allison Burley, Lori Gardner, and their families, Richard Burley, David Burley, Tom Gardner, Matthew Robertson, and Daniel Robertson.
Knowing Susan believed in God and will spend a joyful eternity in Heaven bring her family and friends much comfort. Being reunited with her one day brings Gene peace. The Bible says “Let not your heart be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many rooms. If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. I will come again and I will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” John 14: 1-3
