Obituary of Harold “Jake” Meeks
Harold Eugene “Jake” Meeks, 77, passed away on September 28, 2019 at his home in Melbourne, Florida.
Jake was born August 20, 1942 in Oaktown, IN and graduated from Oaktown High School in 1960.
He served in the United States Army from 1960 through 1963 performing a tour of duty on the Korean Peninsula. After completing his service to his country, Jake worked for Nugent Dairy, Wonder Bread, Prestolite, Rex Alton, Wabash Foodservice and Bestway Express. Jake also spent five years as a business owner, owning a service station in Wheatland, Indiana.
The common theme throughout Jake’s life was that he never met a stranger, whether in the Army, in his career or when on vacation with his family. He loved to go for drives with his dog, Bronco, and could often be found buying a cup of cappuccino for himself and a beef stick or a taco for Bronco. He was a classic car enthusiast and had a special place in his heart for his truck “Old Green”.
Jake is preceded in death by his parents Harold L “Shorty” Meeks and Nellie (Archer) Meeks, his brother Roy L Meeks, sisters Jackie Meeks and Betty Fallin, grandson Archer Ryan Meeks and great granddaughter Kenzlee Elizabeth Kramer.
Surviving are his wife, Angela (Mayes) Meeks, Melbourne, Florida, whom he married in 1981, and their sons Clint Meeks and wife Sandy, Ethan Meeks and wife Annie, Donovan Meeks and Johnathan Meeks and fiancé Savannah. Also surviving is his first wife Patricia (Ballard) Meeks, Bruceville, Indiana, whom he married in 1964, their sons Stacy Meeks and wife Tina, Jeff Meeks and wife Angie and daughter Angela Meeks. Jake was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren that were always the focus of conversation including grandsons Nickolas Meeks, Bradley Bolenbaugh, Dustin Meeks, Dylan Bolenbaugh, Tyler Bolenbaugh, August Meeks and Connor Meeks, granddaughters Holly Bolenbaugh, Adrienne Meeks, Carolyn Meeks and Lydia Meeks, and great-grandchildren Jazmyne Shelton, Alex Litke, Makenna McCarter, Tyten Litke, Lorelai Meeks and Watson Meeks. Jake is also survived by his sisters Elizabeth Moody and husband Harold, Judy Walker, brothers Robert Meeks and wife Sue and Cecil Meeks and wife Kim.
