Obituary of Pauline “Polly” Greer Shoemaker
Pauline Greer Shoemaker, “Polly”, passed away on early Thanksgiving morning, November 28, 2019. She is survived by her four children, Karen Greer Simmons (husband Peter) W. R. Shoemaker (Randy), Therese Shoemaker Brown (husband Kent) and Jeffrey M. Shoemaker (wife Ginger).
She is mourned by her grandchildren:
Jason Berry, Alex Simmons (Lisa), Richard Shoemaker (Kathy), Danielle Centanni, Melanie Molloy (Sean), Nicole Gellene (Chris), Ashley Dyer, Monica Lancaster (Corey), Adam Dyer (Katie), and Carrie Downerd (John).
Also mourning Polly are her Great-grandchildren:
Brain Molloy, Andrew Molloy, Landon Dyer, Kyler Dyer, Luke Simmons, Kiana Dyer, Peyton Lancaster, Coral Dyer, Claire Lancaster, Adelynn Downerd, Leo Gellene, Chris Shoemaker, Charlie Shoemaker, Heather Shoemaker, Andy Shoemaker and Brittany Centanni.
Polly was born in Castlewood, Va. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry Thomas Greer and Carrie Belle Steffey Greer, her brothers Raymond and Claude Greer, and three sisters, Ollie Porter, Nancy Hobbs, and Goldie Greer.
She came to Brevard in 1960 with her family and husband “Woody”. They were avid golfers and Polly became Club Champion at many of Brevard’s golf courses over the next 40 years, including Suntree Country Club, Manatee Golf Course, Crane Creek City Course, and Cocoa Beach Golf Course.
Summer residents at Roan Mountain, Tennessee, Polly and Woody loved their mountain top cabin home. At the nearby Mountain Glen Golf course in N. Carolina, Polly continued to win tournaments and increased her hole-in-one record to 6. She was heard more than once saying “I have two here” meaning hole-in-ones!!!
Graduating from her nurses training in 1947, she became a hospital nurse, private care nurse and Red Cross nurse on a part-time basis during the next 20 years.
She loved her bridge, pinochle and golfing friends and will be sorely missed.
She attended church with family at New Life Fellowship Church with Pastor Larry Linkous as well as Calvery Chapel in West Melbourne with Pastor Mark Balmer She is with Our Lord Jesus Christ today and Is in perfection. God Bless her large loving family and friends who loved her!
