Obituary of Julian Mead Foster
Born May 27, 1919 died May 27, 2017..He passed on his 98 Birthday due to a short illness. Julian was a Geological Engineering Scientist.
He is survived by his wife Sonjia Smith Foster, His nephew Dr. Louis Foster and his niece Maggie Foster,2 step sons James Chancey and Daniel Todd Chancey, and a step granddaughter, Brook Geer. and a Mother in law, Zella Smith Parsons.
Julian was born in Huntington, West Virginia and Graduated Marshall Collage 1941 with a Bachelor Degree in Geology. He did post graduate work at MIT and Yale University.
He joined the Military shortly after graduation ..he served in the Marine Corp, the Air Force and the Army..(side note..Julian scored the highest entry exam score than anyone in history at that time)..Julian had special skills that moved him form one branch of the service to another..He was a Geologist, Electronics officer, Air Force Training Cadet, Sharp shooter, teacher..His main obligation was to the Army in the secret development for the use of Radar for bombers in WWII..He was stationed at Boca Raton and had to tell everyone he was in Cooks and Bakers School there at the Base due to the secret nature of his project. He was ready, with bags packed to be shipped over seas when the United States drooped the Atomic Bomb and the war was over….. Julian was a 2nd Lieutenant when he was discharged from the service.
Julian then went to work for J. Edgar Hoover at the FBI..He worked there as an FBI Agent for a couple of years and said it just wasn't his cup of tea..So, he went to work for the United States Army Corp of Engineers..He was able to use his Geology education and worked his way up to Chief of Engineers, Geology, Soils and Materials Branch, Materials and Specials Studies Section Huntington, West Virginia Branch. He was an Engineering Scientist, Consultant and trouble shooter in the field of soils and Geology to other branches of the Corp…
Julian was a very accomplished man…He spent over 30 years with the Corp..He said there was never a day that he didn't want to go to work.. He never took a sick day..He retired from the Corp of Engineers in 1976..
Moved to Florida, built a beautiful home in Indialantic. and totally enjoyed his retirement traveling, boating and fishing..Julian lived in his house form the day he moved in until the day he passed in his sleep Saturday, May 27..his 98 th Birthday.
He was a member of St. Marks Methodist Church in Indialantic, Florida. where he was presented with the honor of Trustee Emeritus for appreciation whose generous Spirit and selfless service characterized his many years of devotion and leadership..He was instrumental in the design and building the beautiful St Marks Methodist Church in Indialantic…Julian also made the communion bread for 20 years for Communion Services..
Julian was adored by his wife. and his friends..Sonjia called him her Knight in Shining Armour….Sonjia had the pleasure of Julian's friendship for over 20 years and had been his wife for 6 and a half years..…She told him a few days before he passed that she would meet him at The Rainbow Bridge and that they could be reunited with our beloved pets, Lily and Miska and each other.. and we we will..It is Gods Promise to us. , She said recently , "I wish there was some wonderful place called the Land of Beginning Again"…
A service with military honors will be at 2:00 pm on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care, 1001 South Hickory St, Melbourne.
