Obituary of Jeannie Skrinskus
Jeannie Skrinskus, 94, died March 26, 2014 at William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, Florida. She was born March 8, 1920 in Rockford Illinois.
Jeannie was blessed with a long life touching many people along the way. She was a pioneer womenGÇÖs libber not by choice, but by circumstances.
Born in the roaring twenties, which is where Jeannie got her love for life. Father John Gritz came to this country from Lithuania, on a boat alone, passing thru Ellis Island like most pioneer immigrants. He met his wife in Agnes, they moved to Rockford Ill, and she died 5 years later in child birth. Jeannie grew up during the depression, with a blended family and many unusual relatives joining the family to survive the depression. Jeannie at an early age was working in the family business, a grocery store. Her family, because of the grocery store, were afforded many advantages, most notably her high school graduation in 1938.
During the WWII years she moved to Chicago. She was a talented comptometer operator, a profession in need prior to computers. She worked for many companies, in accounts receivable and calculating bank interest. During her single years in Chicago she did extensive travel within the US.
In 1948 she met John C. Skrinskus, a widower with two children. They married in 1949 having 3 more children and moved to Round Lake Il. John died in a car accident after 8 years of marriage leaving Jeannie to raise those children. Due to her prior work history, she computed to Chicago and again worked in accounts receivables for many years until her retirement.
She retired in 1975, moving to Palm Bay enjoying the relaxing Florida lifestyle for almost 40 more years.
She is survived by her sister Bernice Walmicrath Rockford, IL, her children, John G Skrinskus (Elaine) Foothill Ranch Ca, Jeanne Koschnitzki (late Rich Kosnitzki)Laramie WY, Cynthia Ruiter (Dale) Melbourne Beach Fl, Claudia Forrester (Mitchell) Denver CO and Charles Skrinskus, Palm Bay FL, 9 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.
A private memorial celebration will be held in May.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to William Childs Hospice House, 381 Medplex Parkway, Palm Bay, FL 32907.
