Obituary of Olga Legan

Olga Legan, 88, retired banker, died on Saturday, May 9th at her West Melbourne home. Mrs. Legan was born in Stamford, Connecticut, the daughter of Peter and Julia Gluz, and a 1944 graduate of Stamford High School. She came to Brevard County with her husband, Walter, in 1981 from Randolph, Vermont, after a distinguished career at the Randolph National Bank. Olga was an inspiration to others. She was an avid volunteer in the community, giving her time and abundant energy to many local organizations. She assisted others at the Daily Bread, Holmes Regional Medical Center, and the South Brevard Sharing Center. Mrs. Legan was a member of the Greater Palm Bay Senior Center, where she enjoyed helping with many activities, including one of her favorites, Bingo. Olga also was a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Council of Catholic Women. After retiring from full-time employment, Olga began working 20 hours per week at Walmart in Palm Bay, remarkably retaining that pace until she was 80. She was active most of her life, and walked hundreds of miles with the Melbourne Square Mall Walkers Program. She spent many years making putts with the Women+óGé¼Gäós Golf League at the Crane Creek Reserve Golf Club. Olga loved golf and hopefully has a permanent tee time with her husband, Walter, from now on. She enjoyed going on outings with her Red Hat Society, whose members continued to accommodate her needs and treat her royally. Olga enjoyed the theater immensely and volunteered at the Maxwell C. King Center for the Performing Arts, the Henegar Center, and the Melbourne Civic Theatre. It was very difficult for her to give up this life full of purpose and accomplishment, as well as all of the relationships that she formed while living in her community. Olga Legan is survived by three children, Walter A. Legan (Kathy) of Orlando, Dr. Thomas Legan (Mary Ann) of Corralitos, CA, and Patricia Young (Craig) of Charleston, SC. She dearly cherished her six grandchildren, Lance Legan of Orlando, Melanie Meisner of Orlando, Thomas Legan, Jr. of CA, John Legan of CA, Emily Young of TX, and Lindsay Young of TX. Olga had two great-grandchildren, Ellie, and Lucille, both of Orlando. She is predeceased by her husband, Walter V. Legan, her brother, Harry Gluz, and her sister, Dorothy Knudsen. Olga had a zest for life. She traveled the world and enjoyed exploring every avenue and opportunity. She had a keen sense of humor, which set people at ease. And above all, she loved her family and friends. She will be deeply missed.
