Obituary of Avis D. Pickering
Avis D. Pickering, age 92, of Stratton, Vermont, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, Florida, surrounded by family.
She was born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 4, 1927. Avis (Nono, The Mayor, Budget, Mama Pick) was known for her love of a great party, a good joke and a strong whiskey sour (only on the weekends). She lived for the fall football season and her beloved New England Patriots! Her green thumb will continue to be envied and enjoyed by many. Avis always had an open door for family and friends, a welcoming smile and a warm hug with a freshly baked loaf of Shredded Wheat Bread. She was an inspiration to all who were blessed to know her. As she always said she is “on the road again.”
Avis will be deeply missed by her daughter, Amy Howell; son, James Marsh Pickering (Maria); granddaughters, Kristine Howell McAllister (Michael), Jessica Whitney Webb (Chad), Kate Gentes; grandson, Joshua Gentes; great-granddaughters, Charlotte Watt and Kylee McAllister; brother, Porter S. Dickinson (Sally) and several nieces and nephews.
Avis is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Porter Dickinson and Lillian Leeman Dickinson; husband of 61 years, Earl Bartlett Pickering Jr. and son Edward Bartlett Pickering.
