Obituary of Madeline E. Everett

Madeline E. Everett, 74, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Holmes Hospital in Melbourne, Florida with her family at her side. She was the loving wife of Donald (Sam) Everett for the past 51 years. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania her family then relocated to Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania where she spent her formative years. Madeline lived in the Pocono Mountains for most of her life, over 50 years of that being in Reeders, where she raised her family. In May of 2017 she and her husband moved to Palm Bay, Florida for health reasons. She was the daughter of the late William and Geraldine (Cavenaugh) VanHorn. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, to Madeline her family was everything. Madeline enjoyed photography, scrapbooking, gardening, bird watching, the beach, collecting, decorating her home, Nascar, shopping, yard sales, and above all spending time with family, dear friends and loved ones, especially her grandchildren. Madeline also loved animals especially cats which she had many of over the years, the last being her boy Smokey whom she had for 23 years. Madeline worked in many fields and Pocono businesses over the years including the former Ronson Plant and Rea & Derick Pharmacy. She worked for many years as a bartender in many local establishments including Camelback where she also was Food and beverage manager for several years, The Hearth, The Tannersville Inn and many others. She had the distinction of being the first woman bartender in Monroe County. Madeline also served as Township Secretary and Auditor for Jackson Township for many years. Finally retiring from The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission where she worked as Toll Collector at the Delaware and Portland Bridges. In addition to her husband Donald she is survived by a daughter, Sharon Beehler and her husband Kevin of Tobyhanna; son, Chad Everett and his wife Dawn of Reeders; son, Todd Storm of Reeders; brother, Gerald Simancek of Gouldsboro; brother-in-law, Joseph Gordon of Effort; grandchildren, Carlee Beehler, Kelsey Hovi, Brandon and Jacob Everett, Ryan Schaller, William Storm, and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, MaryAnn Gordon and a brother; Donald Simancek. Madeline was a parishioner of Our Lady of Victory Church of Tannersville, Pennsylvania. Private cremation was entrusted to the Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care of Palm Bay, Florida. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or to your favorite local animal charity.
