Obituary of Susan May Wilson

Rockledge, Florida—Susan (Sue) Wilson died Thursday, June 20, 2019, at the Vitas Hospice Center in Rockledge, Florida. Sue was born September 5, 1935 in Virginia, Minnesota to her parents, Fred Flankey and Virginia (Martin) Flankey. She graduated from Mountain Iron High School in 1953. She married Dwight Wilson on June 11, 1955 in Virginia. Dwight was a career US Navy Flight Engineer and retired in 1968. The family moved back to Parkville, Minnesota, for 2 years and then relocated to Florida in 1970. After many years in Florida Dwight died in 2001; Sue then moved back to Minnesota. She lived in Gilbert and then moved to Mountain Iron. She joined Messiah Lutheran Church in Mountain Iron and remained a member until her death. In 2012 Sue decided to move from Mountain Iron back down to Florida to be near her daughter, Dana Wilson. Sue’s health began to decline in 2017; in May 2018 she was moved into an Assisted Living Facility in Rockledge, Florida. Continuing medical issues forced her to move into a Skilled Nursing Facility (nursing home) in May 2018. Complications from genetic liver cirrhosis lead to her death on June 20, 2019. She is survived by her son, Scott Wilson, a retired US Army Officer living in Frederick, Maryland; her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lisa Wilson (married to Scott Wilson); her daughter, Ms. Dana Wilson, the Postmaster at Merritt Island, Florida; her granddaughter, Ms. Morgan Wilson in Winter Park, Florida; and her great-granddaughter, Miss Echo McCormick of Winter Park, Florida; two sisters, Kathy Golden (Mike Golden, dec) of Mountain Iron, Minnesota and Laura Lahde (Duane Lahde) of Mountain Iron, Minnesota; one brother, Frederick (Bucky) Flankey of Crossville, Tennessee, and sister-in-law Beverly Flankey. One sister is deceased, Virginia (Peanut) Saari (Raymond Saari Surv). A Memorial Service will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, Mountain Iron, Minnesota, on July 16, 2019, at 1 PM. Burial will be at Fort Snelling VA National Cemetery on July 19, 2019 at 1:15 PM. A brief grave side service will be held at that time at Section 6-D, Grave 70, where she will be buried next to her husband, Dwight Allen Wilson.
