Obituary of Michael Garry Wilmarth
Mike Wilmarth, 50, of Melbourne, FL., passed on Thursday, July 5, 2018.
Born to Stanley and Dorothy (Robbins) Wilmarth, Mike began gracing this world with his presence on November 21, 1967, in Barre, MA. His family eventually relocated to Satellite Beach in 1977 from Tempe, AZ.
Mike started a very successful lawncare and landscaping business in 1983 before graduating Satellite High School in 1985. He received his AA from Brevard Community College in 1993. In 1995 he graduated Summa Cum Laude from UCF with a BA in Criminal Justice, and in 1998 he got his Law Enforcement Certification from the Brevard Community College Police Academy – all while operating his business full-time.
In 1999, Mike was hired as a Reserve Police Officer by the City of West Melbourne. In 2008, Mike’s passion for law enforcement and his love of riding motorcycles merged when he accepted a full-time Motor Officer position with WMPD – “Motor Mike” had arrived. He enjoyed the brotherhood and camaraderie of the motors and officers from many agencies. After extensive training at the FHP Training Academy in Tallahassee, Mike earned his Traffic Homicide Investigator Certifications I and II in 2012; all while continuing to operate his lawncare business for many of his long-term customers.
Mike’s lawncare business, once again, grew to a level that required his full-time attention and he chose to resign his position with WMPD in 2014. Mike found a new passion in trading stocks and options and could often be found making trades on his cellphone app in between customers. In the evenings, he would watch webinars, and participate in chats to expand his knowledge from his home office. Mike always enjoyed learning new things and earned his Certified Fitness Trainer Certification in 2016 and built a Marcy Gym in the garage. Mike was dedicated to his health and applied what he learned to improving his internal and external appearance.
Mike loved fishing, boating, riding motorcycles, snow and water skiing, cooking, baking, grilling, zip-lining, woodworking, bike riding, go-karts, working out, corn hole, finding adventures and spending time with family.
Mike was well known for his variety of motorcycles, cars and trucks he had throughout the years, but most recently his collection of Ford Super Duty trucks – Christine, Gabrielle and Jane.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Wilmarth, and grandson, Karson Wilmarth.
Mike leaves behind a family of broken hearts including his son, Robert and his wife, Samantha; mother, Dorothy Harlow (Massachusetts); wife, Michelle; daughter, Shelli; in-laws, Dennis and Linda Payne; and a brother.
Mike’s Celebration of Life will be on Sunday, July 15th, doors open at 1 pm, at Front Street Civic Center, 2205 S. Front Street, Melbourne, FL 32901.
