Hello Moeckel family.
My name is Carol Spencer, and I am writing to tell you that I just learned about George's death, through the retired teachers' newsletter. I am so so sorry for your loss.
I have known George since he began his teaching career in Rutland. We became friends through the middle school work that George helped to inspire, create and maintain among his colleagues. He then joined a larger group of educators from greater Rutland County to begin the difficult work of creating performance-based "Capstone" assessments for students of all ages. He was a pioneer in this work, who sought out, understood and used research to teach and meet the needs of his students and his colleagues.
We remained in touch until about 4 years ago. Here is what he wrote to me in December, 2016:
"Merry Christmas. I miss you too. Capstone days ere the highlight of my teaching career.
George"
Up until that time, we sent each other funny e-mails, and he nailed it every time. I have missed him these four years, and I will always miss his friendship, support, good humor, kindness and flexibility.
me: "George. . .we have to 'do' this, and do it by next week."
George: "Okay. Here's what I can do to help. When do you need this part by?"
It would mean a great deal to me to know when/where the memorial service might be, so that I can attend if at all possible. I do not live in Rutland County, and so, hoping I can trouble you to send me an e-mail.
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Carol Spencer

I am sorry to hear of George’s passing. “Mr Moeckle” was a kind, informative, and effective teacher. He always had us striving for his “Nicely” seal of approval. I regret not knowing him in my adult years. He left a mark with me!
My sincere sympathy to all.
