Obituary of Alberto Nunez

Alberto Nunez, 80, of Melbourne, FL died peacefully on December 21, 2018 at William Child’s Hospice House in Palm Bay, FL. Mr. Nunez was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico to the late Alberto Nunez Faria and Rose Lugo. Alberto’s family moved to Manhattan, NY, while he was still a toddler. During his elementary school years, he attended and boarded at Graham School located in Hastings-On-Hudson, NY. In 1956, Alberto graduated from Commerce High School located in Yonkers, NY. While in school, his love of athletics grew, and he was known to compete in many different sports. The New York Yankees and the New York Giants were two of his all-time favorite sports teams. From 1956 to 1960, Alberto proudly served our country while enlisted in the U.S. Navy. For three of those years, he sailed on the USS Canberra. Alberto recalled these years fondly, and considered them among the best of his life. He loved to share stories of his adventures on the sea. Before moving from Long Island, NY to Florida in early 2002, Mr. Nunez retired from Citicorp after 25 years. For his position as an AVP in the Investment Services Division, Alberto commuted daily to Manhattan, and was working when the tragedy of 9/11 occurred. On that day, Alberto bravely assisted several individuals out of his office building, which was located just eight blocks from where the Twin Towers had stood. Alberto was hardworking, dedicated, and loving. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who always put the needs of his family before himself. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years, Victoria Nunez. He is survived by his brother, Louis (Susan) Nunez; children, Alberto Russo, Thomas (Lori) Nunez, Lauren (Christopher) Donato and Darren (Geoff) Nunez; grandchildren, Samantha, Jason, Victoria, Matthew and Eric. A celebration of Alberto’s life will be held at the Melbourne Yacht Club at 1202 E River Dr, Melbourne, FL 32901 from 1 pm to 4 pm on February 2nd, 2019. Alberto’s soft-spoken nature, kind heart and gentle soul will be greatly missed by his family, and all who knew and loved him.
