Obituary of Vincent J. Powers

Vincent J. Powers, 81, of Melbourne, FL, passed away August 23, 2018 with his loving family by his side. Born in Blackshear, GA November 3, 1936 and raised in Waycross, GA where he called his home town, Vince decided at a young age to join the Air Force. While stationed at Burtonwood AFB in England, Vince met his wife Flo in Liverpool England where they married before returning to the U.S. to start their lives together. During his time in the Air Force and raising two children, Michele and Steven, Vince and his family were stationed in many places: Indiana, Italy, Alaska and three times in Texas. While living in Alaska many weekends were spent camping and traveling. Vince retired from the Air Force as a Tsgt with 23 years of service at his last location in Texas. Vince and his family moved to Florida where he worked for the town of Melbourne Beach for 27 years. At retirement he was the towns Public Works Director. Vince loved to travel, listen to country music and be with his family. He was a giving, loving, caring family man with a great sense of humor. He was a true patriot. He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings. Vince is survived by his wife of 60 years, Florence, daughter Michele Swope, son Steven, brother Truman Powers and son in law James Swope. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday August 29, 2018 at 12:30pm at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery 5525 US Hwy 1 North Mims, FL.
