Obituary of Virgil “Lee” Cameron

Virgil “Lee” Cameron, 86, passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, peacefully at the William Childs Hospice House surrounded by his family. He was born on October 8, 1931, in Kirksville, Missouri, to Paul Eugene Cameron and Mona Pauline Cameron. Lee, as he was known by to his friends and family, enlisted in the United States Army in 1949, where he served during the post WWII occupation of Germany, the Korean War, and was a combat veteran of the Vietnam War. Lee was also assigned to notable units such as the Old Guard at Arlington Cemetery where he participated in the funeral of Senator Robert F. Kennedy, the 101st Airborne Division, and the Judge Advocate General Corps. During his military career he was awarded with numerous letters of commendations along with the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, European-African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Valorous Citation Award, Army Meritorious Unit Citation, Army Presidential Unit Citation, and the Combat Infantry Badge. Lee retired from the US Army in 1977, and settled in Palm Bay, Florida where he eventually became a successful small business owner of LeeCam Aluminum. Lee enjoyed wood working and working on his cars. He was a loving and devoted husband to Maria Cameron for 52 years. Father to Mona Myrick, Lantz Cameron and wife Teresa, Belinda Dibble and husband David, Jorge Cameron and wife Lori, Kimberly Cameron Taylor and husband Joshua. Grandfather to Tracy Myrick Brewer, Kristie Myrick Payne, Virgil Lee Cameron and wife Anne, Danaka Valente and husband Nicholas, Cory Dibble and wife Colleen, Ninah Cameron, Sean Cameron and wife Amie, and Kailey Thompson. Great grandfather to Cameron Brewer, Garrett Finnen, Gavin Payne, Landen Valente, Teagan Valente, Hilten Valente, Shelby Cameron, Amelia Saxon, Adalyn Saxon, Holden Cameron, and Wake Dibble. Brother to Paul Cameron and wife Virginia, Wanda Lyon and Janelle Stover.
