Obituary of Douglas Farrow

Douglas Farrow , a resident of Palm Bay, Fl passed away peacefully, Thursday, November 9, 2017. Born August 22, 1926, in Guntersville, Alabama, Douglas entered the U.S. Navy at the age of 16. He served during WW2 in the Pacific Theater as a landing craft operator and participated in the battles at Kwajalen and Enewetok.  During the Korean war, Douglas piloted rescue craft to retrieve and rescue downed Pilots who crashed during training.  In 1962, while serving as a Chief Boatswain mate, he participated in the blockade of Soviet ships during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Douglas retired from the Navy in 1963. After leaving the Navy, he continued his service at sea as First Mate aboard the Privateer, a ship owned by Reynolds Aluminum. The Privateer was the mother ship to the submarine Aluminaut. At that time, it was the worlds deepest diving submarine.  After leaving the Privateer, he went on to serve in the Civil Service at Homestead Air Force Base in Miami. Finally enjoying retirement, Douglas enjoyed golfing, fishing and working on projects at home. Douglas in survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Constance Farrow, two children, Douglas Farrow, his wife Priscilla and Cheryl Alston, two grandsons Richard Alston, Scott Farrow, his sisters Jean Fant and Francis Conquest, both of Albertville, Alabama. A memorial service will be held Monday, November 13, 2017 at 4 p.m. at Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care, 950 Malabar Rd.
