Obituary of George N. Spooner
George Nathan Spooner, Jr., 87, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2015. Born in 1928 in Williamsport, PA, the sixth of eight children, to George and Margaret Spooner. He was a member of the original Little League teams formed in 1939 and celebrated with surviving members on the 75th anniversary of the first game in 2014. Following high school, he served in the Navy at the end of WWII, then worked for more than 30 years for Allegheny (USAir) Airlines in schedules, rising to an executive position with the company. Upon retirement to Florida, George spent his time with friends and family, enjoyed golf, and devoted the majority of his time to participating at his church.
He was married to Dorene Mowery in 1949 for 50 years until her death in 1999. Survivors include his daughter Jeanne and son-in-law Joseph Hillebrand; sister Betty Campbell (Robert); brother Harold Spooner (Elllen); and sister-in-law Bettilou Mowery (Donald-deceased), as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. He is preceded by both parents, brothers Norman, Robert, and Millard, and sisters Edith and Claire.A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at Riviera United Church of Christ on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 1:00 pm. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery in Williamsport, PA, at a later date.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Riviera United Church of Christ, 451 Riviera Dr NE, Palm Bay, FL 32905.
