Bernice GÇ£BunnyGÇ¥ Dixon, 88, a longtime resident of Southlake Towers in Palm Bay, passed from this life on Wednesday 17, 2014 at William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay. She was diagnosed with cancer over three years ago and never lost her humor or joyful outlook on life. She was surrounded by family and friends, and though we will miss her dearly, we know that someday, we will see her again.
She was the widow of Charles Dixon, Sr. She is survived by two sons, Reverend Charles Dixon, Jr., and his wife, Lorraine of Palm Bay, and David Dixon, and his wife, Angela of South Attleboro, MA; five grandchildren, Kim (Dixon) Donovan of Palm Bay, Kathy (Dixon) Woodmansee of Graham, NC, Deputy James Dixon of Vero Lakes, David Dixon, Jr. of Cape Cod, MA, and Sarah Dixon of South Attleboro, MA; as well as 13 great-grandchildren.
Bunny was born on April 18, 1926, the youngest of six children of John and Ellen Lawton in South Attleboro, MA. The family then moved to Pawtucket, RI. She was married to Charles Dixon, Sr. on October 26, 1946 and lived in RI until they moved to Palm Bay in 1982. She was a devoted mother and homemaker. She worked in various jobs as a housekeeper and assembly work. Her best work was done as GÇ£Nana BunnyGÇ¥, taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She will be remembered by her family and friends as optimistic and joyful. She was always smiling and was a trued and valuable friend. Her bright outlook on life and her Christian witness even in the face of cancer was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was always willing to help and encourage others. Throughout her retirement years, she never slowed down and remained active through church and activities with her friends at Southlake Towers. Most of all, we will miss her laughter and her smile.
The family would also like to thank all of her friends for their support and a special thank you to the Hospice workers for their kindness and loving care.
