Otis was one of the most genuine people that I have ever met, a solid business leader and a true gentleman. I consider having known him as a gift. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family, his many friends and colleagues.

I had the pleasure to work with Otis on many occasions over the years and recently was able to sit with him at the PAPC office and hear about his family and his plans. I remember thinking what an amazing person – so filled with love and hope and passion. My thoughts and prayers are with all of his family and the PAPC family who I know will miss him greatly.

Susan and Family:
My deepest and sincerest condolences for your loss. Otis was a “True Friend” and a mentor. I got to know Stacy and Brian during the early days of PAPC and you, Susan, as the 5-years with him went along. He taught me a great deal and I am forever the better for it. He is probably sitting down in Heaven, chuckling and having an ice cream cone. Joyce and my prayers are with all of you during this solemn time.

Dear Susan, family and friends. Though I’m retired now, Otis was my first corporate sale when he was serving as Director of Purchasing for Holiday Inn. I was in my mid-twenties. Otis and I quickly became lifelong friends and followed each other over the past almost 40 years. Otis was probably not following protocol by today’s standards, but he introduced me to Susan and their two kids and had me over for dinner when I was in town. This is unthinkable with today’s young Purchasing Managers who are taught in school that the supplier is the enemy and to gain a concession each time you see them. What the young managers don’t realize is that suppliers work extra hard for customers like Otis. Until my retirement two years ago, each year at the National Restaurant Show in Chicago, Otis would seek me out and we would spend time catching up on our respective family’s activities. Susan was his whole world and family meant everything to him. He was so proud of his children. I know he will live on in the hearts of Susan, their children, grandchildren and his many friends. Rest well dear friend and I look forward to seeing you on the other side. GOD bless.

In 1991, when I came to the work at The Forman Group, Otis Cook was my boss. While, it was true that his name appeared at the bottom of my paycheck, Otis was more like a friend than a boss, I guess that’s why I stayed there for almost 30 years. When he would come into my office, we rarely talked business…Otis would rather talk about the University of Louisville sports scene or his kids. That was something we had in common. While at home watching UofL play on television, if my phone would ding, I knew it was Otis texting me about the game. Although, he couldn’t tell one to save his life, Otis loved a good joke. I usually had one for him and he would leave my office laughing. Later, I would hear him trying to repeat the same joke to somebody on the phone, but he would never get it right. That didn’t matter to his friends, they would laugh anyway.
Otis Cook was a gentle man, a good friend, with a good heart. He will be missed.

Otis was first, my next door neighbor, then my friend and then a mentor. I’ve known him for over 30 years and can attest to his professionalism, even temper and integrity. He was a creative businessman and quick to share his wisdom and experience with others. His acts of kindness and generosity are often unknown to those he has blessed over the years. I am grateful for our friendship.

In my twenty years of leading Entegra’s business in North America I had the opportunity to engage with many business leaders across a broad spectrum of industries but few were as memorable as Otis Cook. When Louisville, KY comes up in conversation the warmth I feel is not because of the city but because of Otis who I first met there and came to know and respect as having the highest level of integrity in business. We shared a passion for women’s NCAA basketball and I was always thankful when my Connecticut Huskies survived a game with Otis’ Louisville Cardinals team. He was insightful, challenging, affirming and hopeful in all that he did and he challenged me, by his actions, to be a better person. While his business acumen was high, it is his love of family that comes first to mind when I think of Otis. He will be missed by many in the Entegra family as he will be by me personally.

Susan, Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Although I did not know Otis, I am with Entegra and worked with his team at PAPC which always spoke very highly of Otis as well as my boss at ICS of which our companies and their legacies were so much alike. I hope hearing from everyone brings you some peace and comfort.
Continued thoughts and prayers!
