Obituary of Susan Ann Bailey

Bailey, Susan Ann, 79, passed on to her Heavenly home on Sunday, September 9, 2108 at the Dr. Jey Pillai Center for Hospice Care at Wasdin Woods in Rockledge, Florida. Susan “Susie,” was born in Richwood, West Virginia on September 6th to the late Lactea and Doyle Brown. After graduating from Richwood High School where she was a majorette in the marching band, she continued to Glenville State College in Glenville, West Virginia where she earned her degree in Education. During her college years in Glenville, she met the love of her life, George D. Bailey, who was also studying to become a teacher. Susie and George were married March 18, 1961 and began their 57 years together as husband and wife after settling in Summersville, West Virginia. Through their blessed years together they shared a love of family, travel, square dancing, and cheering on the West Virginia Mountaineers. In 1988, they moved to Rockledge, Florida to continue their careers in education. During more than 30 years in the classroom, “Mrs. Bailey” educated students from kindergarten through 9th grade at several schools in Nicholas County, West Virginia as well as Brevard County, Florida before retiring to play bridge, walk the beach and spend time with her family. Susie loved to read, and enjoyed sharing books with family, friends and neighbors. She was also a member of Summerville Baptist Church in Summerville, West Virginia; Rockledge Country Club, Rockledge United Methodist Church, and Garden Clubs in both West Virginia and Florida. Susie is preceded in death by her parents, Lactea O’Dell and Doyle Burton Brown and infant son, Robert Burton Bailey. Susie is survived by her devoted husband, George D. Bailey; sons, George W. “Bill” (Kim) Bailey, Thomas D. (Debbie) Bailey; grandchildren, Andrew W. (Tiffany) Bailey, Abigail A. Bailey, Philip A.J. Rounds; sister, Jeannie B. (Larry) Allen; nephew, Christopher C. Allen; niece, Catherine A. (Joel) Whitford, as well as many beloved cousins. Susie was a devoted wife, wonderful mother, selfless servant and valuable friend to neighbors, fellow teachers and her church congregation. All who were privileged to know Susie, were truly blessed by her love. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the: Dr. Jey Pillai Center for Hospice Care at Wasden Woods, 661 Eyster Blvd, Rockledge, FL 32955.
