Obituary of James Short

James “Mike” Short, 71, formally of Apalachin, NY passed away peacefully at his current home in Palm Bay, FL on January 13, 2019. Mike was predeceased by his parents Jim and Irma Short of Bath, NY. He is survived by his loving family; wife of 52 years Linda; sons and daughters, James & Penny Short, Charles Short & Theresa Cooney Hassan, Jennifer & Frank Trinkle, Mary & Eric Baumes and Kris DuFour (who was like a son); grandchildren, Nicholas & Nathaniel Short, Emily Baumes and Kai Trinkle; sister and brother-in-law, Renee & Kevin Bixby, as well as many other family & friends throughout his life. Mike was a 30+ year employee of NYSEG in the Corning, Penn Yan, Brewster and Binghamton, NY areas through his long career. An Eagle scout in his youth, Mike always put family first, enjoying many family vacations over the years. He was also involved in both Our Lady of Sorrows & St. Margaret Mary’s parishes, with a focus on youth group activities and Living Stations of the Cross with his children. Mike loved to play and watch golf, especially the Thursday night NYSEG golf league at Ely Park with his friends. Over the last few years, Mike and Linda enjoyed the warm weather, sunshine, birdwatching and time with family in Florida. A loving son, husband, father, brother and grandfather he will be truly missed by all who knew him. Many thanks to the staff at St. Francis Hospice of Melbourne, FL for the care and support given to Mike at the end of his life’s journey. The family is planning a private graveside service this spring in Horseheads, NY.
