Obituary of Robert C. “Bob” Garland
Robert C. GÇ£BobGÇ¥ Garland, 81, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014 in Palm Bay, FL.
Bob was born on June 15, 1932 in Quincy, MA to the late Joseph T. Garland and Beatrice L. Martineau Garland. A member of the Westbrook (ME) High School class of 1950, he later earned his Bachelor of Science in business from Boston University while working for Hood milk company. After earning his degree, he worked as an insurance sales representative and was a multi-year top sales agent of Sentry Insurance until his retirement in 1987. After his retirement he started his second career as co-owner, with his wife Betty, of Bay Manor Decorators in Wolfeboro, NH. He belonged to the Exchange Club of Lawrence, MA for 50 years and was President of the National Exchange Club in 1977-1978. An avid mountain climber, he was a member of the AMC Four Thousand Footer Club. He loved camping with his family, and was devoted to service in the community. He served on the Board of Directors for the Cerebral Palsy Association of the Merrimack Valley (MA) for over a decade and was president of the same organization for two years.
His family includes his wife of 44 years, Elizabeth GÇ£BettyGÇ¥ (Nelson); a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Jackie (Sarantakis); three daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Jason Sandoval, Cindy and Tim Sullivan, and Marie Garland and Kyle Kubick; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and a sister, Barbara Litif.
