Obituary of Robert L. Jones

Robert L Jones, 86, passed away suddenly at Holmes Regional Medical Center on Wednesday October 25th after a brief illness. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 63 years, Beverly, his daughter Cheryl Morrison, his son Robert Jones II, and one grandson, James Suttles. Robert was a veteran of both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a proud soldier with the 25th Infantry Division and during his deployments earned many medals including the Purple Heart. He earned his Purple Heart during the Korean War from wounds received in battle. He was captured in a battle with 18 other soldiers and then spent 3 years as a Prisoner of War at the hands of the Red Chinese Army. During this time he bravely suffered atrocities at the hands of his captors and maintained his integrity as an American Soldier. After his release Robert continued his service including deployment in Vietnam. Retiring Sergeant First Class after 22 years of honorable service in the U.S. Army, Robert started a new career as an Arson Investigator with the West Chester University in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He retired from that career after 20 years of service with accolades from his employers and coworkers. Robert retired to the Melbourne area where he remained until his passing. Robert was an active member of many organizations during his life and was included in a documentary of POW’s of the Korean War. He was also in several military books and periodicals. “It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.”  ~George S.
