Obituary of Bertha Lee Scott

Cocoa – Bertha Lee Scott, 92, passed away on Tuesday, May 28th, 2019, peacefully at home. Born in Umatilla, FL, she later moved to Titusville around 1951. She was mother to Charles, Alyce, Janice and Tommy. In the early 50’s she worked at the school cafeteria and then later worked as an Avon representative, and a very good one at that. She loved the friends she made on her routes and the time she spent with them drinking coffee and catching up on local gossip. Bertha would love to tell the story of her making her daughters dresses, just to have them dress their baby brother up in them. It was moments like this with friends and family that made Bertha the happiest. Bertha eventually started a job working for doctors Guerrero and Salib as their office manager, she truly adored the job. She especially liked working with the sick patients as it always made her feel blessed of her own good health. In 1985 Bertha at the age of 55 rather than make plans for retirement, Bertha chose to become a mother once more to her grandsons Jonathan and Thomas Scott. At the age of three and four they moved from California to Bertha’s house in Titusville Florida. She would spend the next 15 years going to parents’ meetings, school plays, sports games and volunteering at their schools. She especially enjoyed volunteering to read to the elementary kids. Bertha was a member of Mims Tabernacle Baptist Church and loved going there on Sundays to worship. When she could no longer attend church on Sunday, she made sure to watch services every Sunday morning on TV. She was a devoted Christian, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Anyone who came to know Bertha adored her for her smile and loving personality. She was able to light up any room she entered. She was her family’s matriarch, source of comfort and love, and will forever be missed. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Scott, Sr., sons, Charles M. Meeker III, and Thomas H. Scott, Jr. She leaves behind her daughters, Alyce L. Dillingham and Janice L. Quirk; 9 grandkids, Thomas H. Scott III, Jonathan L. Scott, Donald Scott Meeker, Tanya Porter, Cathryn L. Beil, Robert L.
